Telepathy involves transmitting and receiving communication from others without needing to be physically near them or to speak to them.
Are you interested in how to learn telepathy? Merriam-Webster defines telepathy as “communication from one mind to another by extrasensory means.” I like to think of it as a thought stream that can be broadcast and received by others. We all have the natural psychic power of being telepathic.
Telepathy definitely exists. I know because I have experimented with sending telepathic messages and discovered they work.
I studied with a shaman who taught that “the strongest thoughtform wins.”
So I tried to generate strong thoughtforms during a drum circle… I found the energy of the drumming changed based on my strongly projected thoughts.
We are all sending telepathic information every time we think. It is possible to consciously direct this energy, and it is also possible to open and clear your ability to receive telepathic messages from others.
Others may have experienced the power of empathy when they suddenly felt the same way as someone nearby was feeling…
How do we pick up on these subtle energies of emotion from others? It seems to be instinctual and very human. Mothers are especially tuned in telepathically to their children, and may have dreams or strong feelings when children are in trouble. Lovers and close friends also tend to have stronger telepathic channels formed between them than strangers do.
How Does Telepathy Work?
I understand telepathy by considering that I don’t “see” how an e-mail gets sent, but somehow the message goes from my computer to someone’s inbox. It’s the same with telepathy, but the messages are sent on the frequency of thought instead of via wireless internet.
Our minds are like radios. We can broadcast and receive telepathic communication.
It’s also like a radio or TV. Before these technologies were invented, who could have imagined we could transmit sound, images, and video over thousands of miles? On mysterious invisible frequencies, this data travels over long distances. When inventors uncovered technology that made this transmission possible, they gave us a great metaphor for how telepathy works.
We all send and transmit psychic energy to others. Our thoughts have power!
We have labeled some forces as electric, magnetic, atomic, musical, etc. Some frequencies are not visible or accessible to humans, yet animals can see or access them. I assume telepathic impulses are traveling along one of these unseen, but very real, frequencies. I imagine humans are like radio transmitters that can broadcast and receive these frequencies.
This reminds me of brainwaves and how we know certain frequencies induce certain states of mind… I’m not a scientist, but wonder if these might be connected somehow to telepathy.
If you meditate, you can open up your ability to receive telepathic messages. This helps you tune your mind to the right frequency.
We send and receive invisible messages from each other throughout space and time. I mean, humanity — we are one whole. We are interconnected on a planet and will continue to be born, die, and be transformed for as long as Creation sees fit. After death, we become the soil, which becomes the food, which feeds the people and animals, who live and influence the world, then die, and become the soil, and so forth and so on.
If you zoom in close enough, you will see we are all made of atoms and cells. Zoom in even closer, and there is no separation between any of us. What makes me me and you you? There are physical boundaries on our bodies but not perceivable boundaries between our mental transmissions or spirits.

Great idea! Using telepathy is not only useful — it’s fun! I’ve used telepathic animal communication to have my cat and dog come home. Recently I needed to take my cat Raven to the vet, and he was out somewhere in the neighborhood. I beamed a mental image to him of coming home and tried to imagine feeling as if he were already there. By the time I was dressed and ready for the vet, Raven was back home and ready to go.
Studying books or working with a teacher is one way to uncover your natural telepathic abilities. A regular meditation practice is also key so your mind is open to receive telepathic messages.

Practice. It can be more effective to send images than words. I like to use telepathy with my pets. One time my dog ran away and I couldn’t catch him. I kept telepathically beaming him the image of him coming home and me feeling so happy. He returned, without me chasing him, in less than 2 minutes.

In this post, I will explore several questions that I received on Quora to help you understand, are psychics and mediums real? We will investigate the following questions asked by real Quora users about psychic abilities:
Clairvoyant accuracy definitely depends on multiple factors, including the clairvoyant and their intention, as well as how they interpret the visual message. Clairvoyants “see” images in their mind’s eye that carry spiritual messages or guidance for others. Clairvoyance is one of many psychic abilities that we can all develop, and with the grace of spirit, it can be used to help serve others and ourselves.
I have been accessing my clairvoyant gifts for others for almost a decade and am amazed how accurately I can assess what is going on for a complete stranger. I set the intention to receive clear and accurate messages, and see what comes through. I also pray regularly and ask specifically for accuracy and clarity in my readings.
Most of the time, clients say I tell them stuff they have already been thinking about (which confirms it for them), and sometimes I tell them things (including past lives or names of spirit guides) that another psychic already told them (which confirms it for me). Sometimes I will see an image and not be sure why, only to later hear that the client met a person who met the description perfectly.
“Seeing” the images is not the tricky part, though. Interpreting them is. This is where most good psychics might mix up the message. For example, I “saw” an American Express card in a reading and interpreted this to mean my client needed to take more credit.
But when I told her exactly what I saw, the image took on a new meaning, because I saw the card she used to process payments at her corporate job, and so the guides were giving her help in that part of her life specifically. I wouldn’t have accurately known the whole meaning without letting her help interpret what I saw, because it had personal meaning to her.
That being said, of course there are sham psychics out there who just pretend to have access to spiritual information, but don’t. I would imagine their readings are not very accurate or only present information that benefits the psychic (such as telling the client they have a curse only the clairvoyant can remove, for a large fee). They probably tell everyone something broad-ranging that is likely to be true for most people and skip specific details.
The best, though, is when a bunch of clairvoyants are around and can confirm that they sense the same thing. That is when I really get the chills and feel awed by having this connection to the collective consciousness and subtle energies of the world. For example, I have had healing sessions with multiple practitioners who clairvoyantly “saw” Jesus there, and the client felt extra hands on her and also “saw” his image. In this case, that is about the best confirmation you can get on something not typically visible to our senses.
You can develop the sense of psychic sight or clairvoyance for yourself, too. It just takes practice and trust. The more you do it, the stronger it gets, and you will begin to pick up on messages for yourself and others quite clearly. Your ego might say it is not possible or you are making it up, but over time, you may find that your visions are coming true!
I did not seek this ability personally; rather, it developed naturally as I practiced Reiki energy healing on myself and on clients. I began to get messages from dead people through clairaudience (psychic “hearing”), clairsentience (psychic feeling), and clairvoyance (psychic “seeing”). Even I was surprised when my clients confirmed I was getting accurate messages from the dead (including information such as the way of death or personality characteristics).
I actually was a little put off by this newfound talent, but it feels good to give people messages of love from the deceased. It gives them hope their loved ones still watch over them and are available.

Yes, they are real. You are noticing that you have claircognizance (you “just know”) and telepathy (receiving thought broadcasts) and precognizance (sensing future events).

It is wild. Most of my clients see 11:11 or 33 everywhere before they come to me for a Reiki session. It happens way too much to be random, and it happened to me when I was going through a spiritual awakening.

Plus, it’s really not that far out, if you think about it. We understand that humans are influenced by different forces: gravity, magnetism, electricity, temperature, humidity, light, and so on. Nerves in our bodies use electrical energy signals to communicate, and these produce electromagnetic energy fields around our bodies. It doesn’t seem far-fetched to consider that our thoughts, sensations, and emotional experiences have some sort of form that can be broadcast and received even if we may not have the exact scientific explanation for it at this point.
For example, I once noticed for several days that it felt challenging to smile in my home. I wasn’t sure why until my roommate randomly yelled at me. I then realized my roommate was angry with me and had been festering over it for three days. I realized I had felt her anger and sensed the tension very subconsciously simply by being around her before she yelled at me. Even though she had not spoken to me, she was psychically broadcasting her true feelings.
This particular example may be more akin to empathy, but at the end of the day, empathy and telepathy are probably very closely related since they both involve sensing the energy of others at a level that is deeper than ordinary consciousness.
There is a lot more to explore with telepathy, and I encourage you to try it for yourself. The experiences of others might be interesting, but the experiences of yourself will be memorable and make an impression that far surpasses hearing tales from others or simply wondering what is possible…. When people say, “I don’t believe in psychics,” I laugh and tell them, “I don’t believe in people who don’t believe in psychics.” It’s silly.
Psychic abilities are natural and useful. Using our psychic gifts like clairvoyance, clairsentience, and claircognizance help us live our best lives and contribute our gifts to the world, in alignment with our spiritual purpose and life mission.
Uncovering your psychic gifts is the result of learning to harness the potential of both hemispheres of the brain, logic/intellect and intuition. It is our birthright as humans to access psychic awareness, but these abilities have been suppressed and denied for centuries in an attempt to control people and out of fear.
I don’t try to prove anything to a skeptic. I used to be one, so I know that they won’t truly believe until they have some sort of direct experience of their own abilities or a sort of mystical awakening from Spirit.

One of my Reiki students actually saw discordant energy floating over the recipient’s body. Another felt like magnets pulled her hands to the right places. Still another Reiki friend doesn’t see or feel the energy, but just knows where it is needed. The first one uses clairvoyance, the second uses clairsentience, and the third uses claircognizance. They are all psychically gifted, but may have different strengths.
So, Am I Psychic?
Yes. We all are. It is possible to uncover, develop, and cultivate your psychic abilities. Just like athletic ability or ability at any other skill, psychic powers increase the more time you devote to honing them.
Psychic abilities are our birthright as humans, and we all possess them. We are limited only by our own internal blocks and beliefs. Sadly, many of these blocks are cultural or even religious. How Can I Develop My Psychic Abilities?
You can use divination cards and crystals as tools to help develop your psychic abilities, but you don’t need them to access your intuition
I didn’t believe in psychics and thought it was a joke until I got my Reiki attunement. As I gave myself healing, I began accessing psychic awareness and receiving messages that others confirmed were accurate. I began studying more and developing my skills, and I continued my practice of meditation. Today, it is uncanny what I know about complete strangers and the extent of what is available through the psychic plane. Up to and including accurate future predictions!
How Do You Know if Someone Has Psychic Abilities?
I believe everyone on the planet has psychic abilities. Some people have trained and practiced to access them, and others have not. I don’t typically care whether someone else is psychically open, but if I wanted to find out, I would check my inner guidance using my own psychic senses and intuition about that.
Some people also pose as well-meaning psychics but exploit people. So, I check in with my inner guidance and use discernment when selecting other psychics to get readings from.
Am I Psychic? I’m Already An Adult…
It is possible to discover your psychic powers as an adult. I did not discover I had psychic abilities until I was at least 24 years old, and now at age 33, I am able to easily and accurately tell strangers information about them I have no reason to know. I have successfully predicted the future in several instances as well.
I did not necessarily believe in psychic abilities, nor give them much credit before I received my Reiki attunement in 2009. My Reiki master was psychic, and I found it awe-inspiring and unexplainable. But as I gave myself Reiki, I started uncovering my own gifts.
I’ve learned we all have a natural ability to receive guidance through our intuition, but most of us have been taught to fear and deny our inner senses. These so-called “supernatural” abilities are actually super natural. They are our birthright.

Did I see a ghost? If so, it might not look quite like this.
Are you wondering, did I see a ghost? The answer is: yes, possibly. You can also experience visitations by a wide range of spiritual presences, and with practice, you can learn to sense them.
I know this might sound crazy, but also I think our natural psychic powers are often vilified as crazy or insane to dismiss or discredit them. Intuition is our birthright, and having psychic powers is not supernatural. It’s supernatural.
Our Psychic Abilities Are Meant to Help Us Serve Humanity
Our intuitive gifts are meant to guide us so we can realize our divine purpose and live our mission on the planet. Teaching us to ignore or negate our inner perceptions disconnects us from our source of spiritual power and purpose and does not always serve us, while our intuition always serves us and helps us.
This article will outline the types of spiritual presences I have personally experienced and will offer signs that can help you discern when you are being visited by a spiritual presence. If you are wondering, “Did I see a ghost?” you have come to the right place. I will discuss ghosts, ancestors, demons, angels, devas, and enlightened spirit guides.
I always say, you won’t know if psychic powers are real until you experience them for yourself. To me, this is part of being a mystic. I want to learn everything through direct personal experience. So, let’s get started!
Ghosts
I did not grow up believing in ghosts, though I did always like a good ghost story. I thought the ghosts were fictional characters. Now that my clairvoyance has developed, I have actually seen ghosts. And with my mediumship powers, I talk to the dead for myself and my clients to bring healing.
The first time I psychically saw a ghost, I was sitting in a hot tub. I looked up and saw the outline of a woman dressed in Victorian garb right across from me in the hot tub! I’ve found it is easiest to see ghosts around sunset, and for some reason, I see a lot of them on the side of the road when I’m driving. If you see something odd, don’t discount it. The ones I’ve seen appear out of the corner of my eye and seem kind of gray or shaded.
Sometimes you might have to set the intention to see ghosts, or simply ask if ghosts are around, to get a glimpse of one. It’s fun to try this when you are out. One time I was eating barbecue when I had the idea to ask, “Are there any ghosts here?” I immediately got a sense that several ghosts were hanging out at the restaurant because they loved the smell and taste of barbecue. Where would you hang out if you were a ghost?
I’ve also heard the presence of ghosts with a type of clairaudience (psychic hearing). Once I was hiking in Massachusetts when I heard some Revolutionary War type music. Later I did some research and discovered the site where I’d been hiking had been a previous battle site! While hiking in Sedona with a friend, we both heard some Native American drums at the same time. We thought this was a sign that Native American spirits were present with us. In this case, the question wasn’t, “Did I see a ghost?” but rather, “Did I hear a ghost?”
Ancestors
Our ancestors are still alive and available to connect to us telepathically. You can even do this with people you’re not related to. I had a friend who was able to do well on a computing exam because she telepathically connected to a computer whiz spirit. She was able to select the right answers due to her connection with this guide.
The first time I knew my ancestor was nearby, I smelled cigarette smoke even though no one was smoking near me. This is called clairalience, or psychic smelling. It smelled like my Granny’s house, and I immediately thought of her and realized she was nearby.
Usually when my ancestors are present, I will sense or feel their presence. I will also have a clairvoyant mental image (like remembering a picture) of them in my head. This is why I recommend you look at photos of your ancestors. If you’ve seen their photo, you will know who is with you when their image comes to mind.
Often, ancestors will appear in dreams. Most of us are still psychically open in our dreams, even if we have closed off these powers in our waking life. Have you ever had an ancestor visit your dreams?
I never would have imagined any truth to this until I received a powerful healing in New Mexico. The woman helped remove demonic attachments and told me to read this book. I noticed that my state of mental well-being improved drastically after seeing her. Before my healing, I was filled with anger. After, I felt peaceful and calm. I read the book, The Unquiet Dead: A Psychologist Treats Spirit Possession, and began noticing more subtle spiritual presences.
Over time, I have naturally drawn a lot of people to my healing practice who actually need these demonic entities removed. I know this sounds crazy, because like I mentioned, I did not grow up believing any of this was true. But time and again, I have seen real benefit in my health when I am able to identify and remove demonic entities for myself and others. Without seeking the ability to do this, this has become a weird specialty of mine.
I can feel and sense when an entity is demonic in a lot of different ways. The book The Unquiet Dead: A Psychologist Treats Spirit Possession outlines quite a few, and I suggest you buy it and read the whole thing if you’re even remotely interested in this topic. On your own, you might notice the following sensations if you are near or influenced by a demonic entity:
Feeling irrationally angry or depressed
Feeling of dread in the stomach
Drawn to addictive substances or experiences (including sexual addiction or work addiction)
Hearing internal voices that tell you to do things that do not feel good
Experiencing a series of bad luck or problems
Having nightmares
Angels
The presence of angels feels very loving, soothing, calming, and pleasant. Angels will give us hints that they are nearby, but will never intervene unless we invite them to. Some signs of an angelic presence include:
Seeing feathers or coins
Seeing birds or animals
A feeling of being loved or at peace
Noticing certain colors (each angel has a specific color, so you can tell who is nearby by paying attention to which color stands out in your environment)
The first time I felt an angelic presence, I had accidentally summonsed it by repeating, “Angels, angels, angels” three times. I immediately felt calm, peaceful, and loved. Angels often appear during my psychic readings or Reiki healing sessions, and their presence feels amazing.
Just as with ancestors, it can be useful to look at images of common angels so that you will know if they are clairvoyantly speaking to you. If you see an image in your mind’s eye of one of the angels that you researched, you will know they are present.
Devas and Nature Spirits
Devas are divine beings. There are spirits that reign over different forms of life, such as animals, plants, and minerals. Nature spirits are present in the ordinary world. There are spirits in the earth (gnomes), air (sylphs), water (undines), and fire (salamanders). It can be fun to view and interact with the spirits of nature once you know about their existence. It is relatively simple to see the salamanders dancing in the fire or view the sylphs guiding the clouds.

Enlightened Spirit Guides
Enlightened spirit guides are some of my favorite spiritual presences to work with. I have felt more connected with these types of spirits since getting my Reiki attunement and by practicing daily meditation. Giving myself Reiki helps me to cleanse my energy body, and my regular meditation practice clears my mind so that I am more sensitive to what is around me.
I especially think it’s cool when both me and my clients sense the presence of the same spirit guide. Sometimes clients even feel like there are extra hands touching them during our sessions. Common enlightened spirit guides include Mother Mary, Jesus, goddess Isis, and Buddha.
These Ascended Master guides are different from ancestors, demons, or ghosts because they are fully in lightened and bring us guidance from that perspective. If you see their image, you will be able to know when they appear because you will get clairvoyant mental images of them.
Just like angels, a visit from an enlightened spirit guide will fill you with peace, joy, and love. If you do not feel such energies, you can be sure the guide is not an enlightened guide. Spirituality for Skeptics: From Raging Atheist to Clairvoyant Psychic Medium
I didn’t always believe in psychics or spirituality. Flash back about 15 years ago, and you’d find me at Boston Common, screaming at a man who preached about God. I was literally a raging atheist. As he preached, I shouted, “There is no God!”
At this time in my life, I was extremely logical and did not believe in anything “un-scientific.” I honestly thought a lot of religion was a hoax to control humanity. Now I realize there are spiritual phenomena that can’t be explained by the logical mind. Maybe one day scientists will find tools to measure various aspects of the unseen world, like the chakras and aura, but spiritual truth goes beyond the labels and descriptions of science.
My opinion on spirituality has changed, but not because of any particular person. It changed because I began having direct, personal, mystical experiences that were not explainable by my logical mind. I began to realize there is something more out there and that my mind was limited in its ability to perceive these phenomena.
Once, some girls found me sitting on a street corner and asked to pray for me. Although I was an atheist, I was opening to exploring spirituality at the time, so I said, “Sure.” They laid their hands on my shoulders and invited the Holy Spirit to fill me. When they were done, I looked at the pack of cigarettes I’d been smoking and no longer wanted them. I felt like I was on a natural high. Colors were brighter and scents were stronger. The buzz lasted for days. I had had my first personal experience of a spiritual presence and definitely wanted more!

Still, I am not here to convince anyone that your psychic powers are real or to tell anyone what spiritual path is right for them. I only hope to show that sometimes skepticism can transform — through direct personal experience of the divine.
When it comes to spirituality for skeptics, I believe it is key to be skeptical on the path. The Buddha taught not to do something just because he said to, but rather to rely on one’s own intellect and sense of what is right. There are many charlatans and wrong beliefs, and a lot of accepted dogma is not necessarily spiritual truth.
After decades of meditation and Reiki practice, I now see the world very differently than I did on that day in Boston Common, when I yelled, “There is no God!” I wonder how your worldview might change if you let yourself explore non-rational psychic phenomenon? There’s only one way to find out…
